Career Readiness

The Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program (UPOP) helps sophomores across all MIT majors develop the professional skills necessary to succeed in their chosen career paths. The year-long program focuses on the career readiness skills that will support students’ success in seeking, being hired for, and thriving in a variety of professional opportunities.

 

UPOP students benefit from interactive classes and workshops, 1:1 advising, and support from UPOP’s dedicated community of staff, mentors, program alumni, employer network members.

Juniors and Seniors

Engineering Leadership

1- to 2-yr cohort-based certificate program

 

GEL develops undergraduate students to be the next generation of technical leaders. Program participants advance their skills in leadership and collaboration in engineering contexts, preparing them for real-world engineering practice.​

 

Throughout the program, GEL students practice the capabilities of effective engineering leaders in experiential team-based settings.​

 

GEL complements MIT’s technical education, enabling undergraduates to be more effective at MIT and in their careers beyond the institute.​

Peer coaching, workshops, 1-yr cohort-based training

 

The Comm Lab develops discipline-specific peer coaches who support MIT School of Engineering students and postdocs with their scientific writing, speaking, and visual design. ​

 

The Comm Lab offers 1:1 coaching, targeted workshops, and other resources to support undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral engineers as they learn key communication skills that will help them achieve their career goals.​
